Fibre optic duplex patch cable

The OM4 fibre is a 50 µm optimised fibre with extended bandwidth. It is used to improve system performance for existing 1 and 10 Gb/s applications as well as future 40 and 100 Gb/s applications.

OM4 fibre supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel and OIF applications, for longer reaches of over 550m at 10Gb/s and for extremely long building backbones and medium length campus backbones. With an effective modal bandwidth (EMB, also known as laser bandwidth) of 4700 MHz-km (more than double the IEEE requirement for 10 Gb/s at 300 metre support), OM4 fibre is also particularly suitable for shorter distances in data centres and for high-performance computing applications.

When used at low data rates such as 100 Mb/s or 1 Gb/s, OM4 is on a par with OM2 or OM3 fibres. The OM4 fibre shows its true strengths at data rates of 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s with ranges of 550m and 300m respectively.
