On course with digitalisation
In 2019, the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden launched an ambitious project to introduce tablets from kindergarten to Year 4. The goal was to modernise teaching and provide pupils with a better learning environment.
iPad rollout
In 2019, the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden launched an ambitious project to introduce tablets from kindergarten to Year 4. The goal was to modernise teaching and provide pupils with a better learning environment.Following an evaluation phase that included assessing suitable systems (Windows tablet or iPad), the decision was made to implement the project using the iPad.As the canton held overall responsibility, it sought a capable partner with the expertise to support the project from the outset. DQ Solutions was ultimately selected.The following year, a Proof of Concept (PoC) was launched to explore both the possibilities and limitations of classroom digitalisation.
MDM configuration
The canton uses Cisco Meraki’s cloud-based Systems Manager (SM) as its MDM platform. A review of suitable accessories, followed by a final evaluation, was also carried out during this phase. In 2021, the second phase began, testing day-to-day operations in selected iPad classrooms. Feedback from teachers led to ongoing system optimisation. By mid-2022, the system was finalised, and the last MDM configuration tasks were completed. Following these intensive test phases, all schools in Appenzell Innerrhoden—from kindergarten to Year 4—will be equipped with new iPads in spring/summer 2023. In parallel, a teacher training programme is being developed to ensure school-appropriate and meaningful device use across all classrooms, particularly in alignment with the Lehrplan 21 curriculum.
