It started with a pilot project for chefs
The Commercial and Industrial Vocational School Fribourg (GIBS) is one of the leading vocational schools in the canton. It trains over 3,500 apprentices across 28 professions. The school offers both dual-system vocational training and full-time courses, for example in its couture workshop. Additionally, GIBS enables students to obtain their vocational baccalaureate during (BM1) or after apprenticeship (BM2). The school places great emphasis on bilingualism (German and French) and promotes integration through targeted support such as tutoring, compensatory measures, and mediation. GIBS also collaborates with institutions like the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Fribourg (HEIA-FR) to guide learners towards further education pathways. Through its diverse educational offerings and practical training, GIBS makes a significant contribution to young people’s professional qualification in the region.
